Does the Publish Protocol require a receiver to store the answer as a post?

The Publish Protocol treats answer storage as optional, not mandatory.

  • Requirement Level — SHOULD, not MUST
  • With Answers Model — Stores as AI persona's post
  • Without Answers Model — Stores directly as page body
  • Wire Format — Identical regardless of storage method
  • Updates — One answer row per question, replaced wholesale

No — it is a SHOULD, not a MUST. A receiver with an answers model stores the payload answer as its AI persona’s authored post and derives the page summary from all published answers; a receiver without one may store the answer directly as the page body. The wire shape is identical either way. [1]

  • One answer row per question, replaced wholesale on re-publish
  • Sources live on the answer, not the page
  • The summary column is owned by the summarizer
